Project Details
Our team provided provided interior renovations of all floor corridors, stairwells, kitchen and offices at the historic Mather House Building. The unique building houses up to 90 university professors as well as several classrooms and a large conference room. The four-story facility is the home of Art Department, Department of Political Science, History Department and Department of Classics.
Dunlop & Johnston had the difficult task of starting the project at the end of the school year in May, 2018 requiring completion of the assignment before the beginning of classes by August 17, 2018 for the fall semester. The schedule allowed approximately sixty days from start to finish. The work required included removal of all furniture, equipment and materials. Demo all existing carpeting and floor covering throughout the building, remove and replace existing light fixtures, switching and light sensors, repair and paint all walls throughout the building. Complete removal of all toilet room facilities, upgrade and replacement of kitchen cabinetry.
The renovations performed involved a concentrated daily coordination with all subcontractors in order to keep a schedule and meet project deadlines. The interior scope of work also included the replacement of existing damaged hardwood floor in conference room while other trades needed to perform work in that space replacing lighting, window shades, painting and wood trim. The two stairwells that provide access to upper and lower floors also were completely renovated. The interior renovations consisted of approximately 20 offices on each of the floors. The task of completing this assignment was further complicated by the long lead time of specified materials. Alternate installation methods were coordinated adding to the complexity of completing work. With the effort of all subcontractors and Dunlop & Johnston team members the project was completed on time and within budget. Furniture was reinstalled for faculty and students to begin fall semester.
Dunlop & Johnston, Inc. completed this extensive renovation project with minimal disruptions. Our team understands the challenges involved with completing extensive renovation projects on active college campuses and what is involved to coordinate materials and the workforce so not to disrupt a productive campus setting.
